Furo- also called “mizu” because. no eye (originally solid); “mizuji; hi suji” 火筋 -used to draw suji in kakiage Haigata and the water trigram in bottom of Haigata

said to be based on tatami needles :. eye at top and therefore can be “stuck into” Tatami;

no difference in use (never touches the tatami), only motif dictates seasonal use; original: solid, square cross-sec. brass / silver oshidori duck knobs; many varieties, Konomi and decorations- ginnan, kaya no mi, shinju, chorogi, peacock, etc.
