Maiji-jidai (periode)
Meiji-jidai is a period in Japan 1868-1912. It gets it’s name from the emperor. This period was one of reforms and modernization. Political power was moved from the Tokugawa Shogunate to the Oligaiks (former samurai) and then gradually shifted over to the military.
In this period the emperor moved from Kyoto to Tokyo, and Tokyo was made the new capital
